OVERVIEW: Beginning October 19, 2009, Lite 104.1 (KLTI-FM) will give Central Iowa musical ensembles (From now on referred to as “choir”) a chance to be featured on Lite 104.1 and to compete for the title of “Holiday Idol.” Lite 104.1/KLTI will begin playing selected entries on the air as of Monday, November 30, 2009. The winning choir will be named on Monday, December 14th after 7am. The winning choir will receive an invitation to perform during intermission of the Tonic Sol-fa concert at Hoyt Sherman Place Friday, December 18, 2009. The winning choir will also receive $1,000, plus another $1,000 will be donated to the charity of their choice. 1)There are three ways to enter into the Holiday Idol competition: a)All enteries must be received by 5pm on 11/23/2009 i)E-mail: chris@lite1041.com ii)Mail: LITE 104.1 Holiday Idol Contest, 1416 Locust St., Des Moines, IA 50309 iii)Drop off in person: LITE 104.1 Holiday Idol Contest, 1416 Locust St., Des Moines, IA 50309 2)A choir is an organized company of singers, and for the purposes of the Lite 104.1 Holiday Idol competition, must consist of two or more persons. The choir must also represent an association, organization, or establishment. Examples include: clubs, churches, cities, schools, companies, etc. 3)Each entry must include: a)One (1) holiday song recorded on a CD or submitted by .mp3. b)Name(s) of choir instructor(s)/leader(s), name of association the choir is affiliated with, contact information (including work and cell phone numbers). c)A photo of the choir (mailed in with the CD or emailed to chris@lite1041.com). d)A written bio that accurately represents the choir’s story, experience and background. e)Name of the charity to which the choir will be donating the winning prize. f)The choir’s website and a logo. (If applicable). Please Note: Failure to submit the items as requested (including sending more than 1 song) may result in disqualification. A video of the choir performing the holiday song they entered for the contest is greatly encouraged, but not required. This may be submitted via CD or by emailing an MPEG file to chris@lite1041.com. 4)The representative submitting the entry is responsible for obtaining written permission from each performer or from a parent or legal guardian (if the performer is under 18 years of age). 5)Only one entry will be allowed for each individual choir. Because some organizations may have multiple choirs based on size and/or ability, separate additional entries may be submitted from any individual organization. Each entry must be submitted separately. 6)A panel of judges selected by Lite 104.1 (KLTI-FM) will begin judging all school entries as early as November 6, 2009. The official on-air contest will begin Monday, November 30, 2009. The first round of competition will end no later than December 4, 2009. 7)Each entry will be critiqued based on overall sound and performance quality. A group of submitted choirs will be selected by Lite 104.1 judges to participate in the overall competition. Each selected choir will receive at least one airplay of their entry on Lite 104.1 and will compete against other choirs in public voting. Competitions may be head-to-head versus one other choir or versus a small group of choirs (depending on the number of entries). 8)There will be two rounds of judging/voting: a)Round one of voting will be completed by Lite 104.1 listeners via www.lite1041.com and Lite 104.1 staff and management. Materials and information collected from the choir entries and application will be made available to listeners on air and/or at www.lite1041.com. Listeners will vote for the entrants they feel should be in the Top 8 choirs for Holiday Idol. Voting will take place from 11/24/09 @ 5pm and conclude 11/29/09 @ 11:59pm. Finalists will be announced on 11/30/09. The top 8 finalists will be determined using a combination of internet votes, text votes, and Lite staff and management judgment. Lite management and staff will use the following criteria as a guideline when selecting final 8 entrants to proceed. (1)Presentation (2)Talent (3)Signing Ability (4)Group Cohesiveness Round one texting votes explained: Listeners may vote for their favorite choir via text. Votes will be cast and tabulated via Lite 104.1's texting program for the first round of competition. Each finalist will have an equal opportunity to be voted on and will be designated with a certain text code that represents them. In order to vote via text the listener will also need to be a member of Lite 104.1’s Text Club (Lite’s texting program). To join Lite 104.1’s Text Club listeners can go to www.lite1041.com or text ‘Lite1041’ space JOIN to 50352. b)Round two of judging/voting will be completed by Lite listeners via voting on the web and text messaging. Voting will take place per round from 11/30/09 to 12/14/09. Total votes will be counted by adding both categories together. i)Web Votes: Votes will be cast and tabulated via Lite 104.1's station website (www.lite1041.com) for each day’s competition until 11:59pm CST of the contest day. Lite 104.1 solely reserves the right to match up competing choirs throughout the contest. Listeners will vote for one of the Top 8 that they deem to be most fit to be the Lite 104.1 Holiday Idol. Listeners may vote only once per day per registered account. ii)Texting Votes: Listeners may vote for their favorite choir via text. Votes will be cast and tabulated via Lite 104.1's texting program for each day’s competition until 11:59pm CST of the contest day. Each finalist will have an equal opportunity to be voted on and will be designated with a certain text code that represents them once they have been selected. In order to vote via text the listener will also need to be a member of Lite 104.1’s Text Club (Lite’s texting program). To join Lite 104.1’s Text Club listeners can go to www.lite1041.com or text ‘Lite1041’ space JOIN to 50352. 9)Due to the urgency of the on-air contest, Lite 104.1 reserves the right to set the first round field of competition any time after November 20 and before November 30, 2009. Because of this, it is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED for choirs to submit their performances as EARLY AS POSSIBLE. 10)The entire competitive field may or may not be announced prior to November 30, 2009. In the event that it is not, participating choirs (i.e. those choirs being paired against each other) will be notified the day prior to being featured on air. 11)The winning choir will be named on Monday, December 14, 2009 after 7am. The choir receiving the most votes at www.lite1041.com in the final round of competition will be named the winner of the “Holiday Idol” competition. The winning choir will receive an invitation to perform during intermission of the Tonic Sol-fa concert at Hoyt Sherman Place December 18, 2009. The winning choir will also receive $1,000 plus another $1,000 will be donated to the charity of their choice. 12)Lite 104.1 is not responsible for inability to vote on the station’s website due to technical difficulties. The title of “Holiday Idol” and the opportunity to perform will not be awarded to any individual(s) but will be awarded to the choir as a whole. The title of “Holiday Idol” and the opportunity to perform cannot be transferred or substituted. 13)Contest is open to all choirs public or private. Chances of winning will be determined by the number of entries received and votes received and are not possible to calculate at this time. 14)Lite 104.1 retains sole and exclusive possession and retains all rights to use any performance entry, or any part thereof, indefinitely in any promotions including (but not limited to) on-air usages. The aforementioned stipulations apply to both winning and non-winning entries. 15)Lite 104.1, Tonic Sol-fa, Hoyt Sherman Place, Blank Children’s Hospital, and Lite 104.1 judges are not responsible for cost associated with submitting any entry or any costs arising out of participating in the contest or failure to adhere to official contest rules. 16)By entering, all participants agree that their voice, name, photograph, caricature and likeness may be used by Lite 104.1 for promotional purposes. All qualifiers agree to provide Lite 104.1 with their name, address, phone number and social security number (if applicable). This will ONLY be used for processing necessary information as it pertains to prizes. Prize winners agree to waive any claim of royalty, right of further remuneration for any such promotional use and agree not to appear on, or on behalf of, any other radio or television station for a period of six (6) months after acceptance of prize without the written permission of Lite 104.1. Finalist agrees to have their performance on 12/18/09 audio- and video-taped for promotional use. 17)Lite 104.1, Tonic Sol-fa, Hoyt Sherman Place, Blank Children’s Hospital, and any Lite 104.1 judges are not responsible for any injury incurred during the performance of any entry; nor are they responsible for failure of any individual or organization’s failure to submit entries in the required manner. 18)Where applicable; Lite 104.1, any Lite 104.1 judge, Tonic Sol-fa, Hoyt Sherman Place, Blank Children’s Hospital, or any of their affiliates, participating sponsors, agencies and the like or any member thereof, make no claims of merchantability or validity of Prize. 19)Employees of Lite 104.1, Des Moines Radio Group and its ultimate parent company, Saga Communications, Inc., their advertising agencies, affiliates, Tonic Sol-fa, Hoyt Sherman Place, Blank Children’s Hospital, employees and immediate families of each, and employees of all radio media of mass communication within a one hundred mile radius of the Lite 104.1 main studio are not eligible to win any contest. Immediate family includes the spouse, great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the employee and his/her spouse. This also includes individuals for whom the employee is current legal guardian. 20)Lite 104.1 reserves the right to disqualify any entrant if these contest rules have been violated in any way. 21)No purchase necessary to participate or win. Void where prohibited by law. 22)Lite 104.1 is not responsible for technical problems due to telephones, problems associated with telephones, mail delivery, email delivery, problems with the Internet or the ability for CD entries to play in a CD player. 23)Rules are subject to change without notice.
